DIN Committee for Earth Building founded

For a long time, earth building materials have suffered from a lack of binding norms. In 1997, the German Association for Building with Earth (DVL) established the first regulatory framework for building with earth. Now the DVL together with other representatives have founded a Norms Committee at the German Institute for Standardisation, the DIN. The committee was inaugurated on the 23 September 2011 with the aim of agreeing product norms for earth blocks as well as earth masonry mortars and earth plaster mortars. read more...

DIN norms for earth building materials take shape

Compared with other European countries, building regulations and building control mechanisms for earth construction in Germany are relatively clear cut, providing architects and tradesmen with a solid statutory framework for earth construction. The DIBt, the German approvals body for construction, approved the most recent third edition of the Lehmbau Regeln in 2008 with the condition that the DVL, the German Association for Building with Earth, should work towards developing DIN norms for industrially manufactured earth building materials. read more...
